Teaching Assistants: Miss Massey

Learning Support Assistant: Miss Hart

Welcome to Class 6's page.

Our Learning

English

In English this term we are looking at a variety of books and we will be learning new sounds in phonics, this term our focus is phase 3. We will use our phonics knowledge to create different pieces of writing, from postcards to four part stories.

Maths

In maths this term we will be exploring numbers to 20 and developing our addition and subtraction skills.

Topic

All Aboard! Is our topic this half term, where we will investigate vehicles that travel on land, sea and air. This is followed by 'Whatever the Weather' a topic learning about the 4 seasons, what happens when the seasons change and monitoring the weather using tally charts.

PE days are Wednesday and Thursday.  Please make sure children have their PE kit in school at all times. Earrings must be removed otherwise children will not be able to participate in the lesson.

In class expectations

In Class 6 we have very high expectations of exceptional behaviour and attitudes to learning. All children are expected to stay on green by following the school rules, listening carefully and trying their best. However, they should be striving for gold by showing the Ghyllgrove Learning Powers. You should aim to be getting your green certificates to take home every Friday to show your parents how fabulous you have been at school.

At Home…

All of the staff in Class 6 will work tireless to ensure everybody does their best this year. We will regularly hear the children read and set them numbers challenges too, so look out for updates in the home school diaries. You should also have a Google Classroom log in which will be used for any remote learning.

In order to help your child achieve and accelerate their progress, we ask for the following commitments from you at home too:

  • Listen to your child read at home 3 times a week using our amazing online Bug Club resource. Records of this must be made in your child’s Home School Diary. Please take the time to put a small note and we will also do the same anytime we hear your child read during the school day. Currently, we cannot send home reading books but Bug Club has been updated and your child will be allocated banded books regularly.

  • Practise your counting, reading and writing your numbers to 20.

  • Practise the tricky word Planet sticker at the front of your home school diary.

School day timings

School begins at 8:50am and children must line up with their teacher in their zone on the playground.

School finishes at 3.00pm and the children are to be collected from the EYFS garden gate.

Any appointments will need to be made via the class teacher.

For online activities please see the children tab then click learning at home. There are links for the children to use to carry on with their learning.
