Resource Base for Hearing Impaired Children

Welcome to The Resource Base (Class 1)

Welcome to our Resource Base for hearing-impaired children.

The adults who work in the Resource Base are: Mrs Scrocca, Mrs Delaney, Mrs Alexander, Mrs Adams and Mrs Morse.

Every day the children can learn in the Resource Base and in their mainstream classes.

The children do PE with their mainstream classes so they need PE kits on different days. For further information on PE or other curriculum areas, please see the appropriate class pages.

Every week the children are given homework to practise what they have been learning in school. The homework includes practising spellings and tables. The children bring home books every day to practise their reading with an adult. If the children read with an adult then they can write this in their Home/School Diary and it will count towards a reading prize. There are lots of certificates for the children to earn for reading at home and for learning times table facts.

'Same but Different' Afternoon

On Wednesday 21st June it was our 'Same but Different' day. We met other deaf children.

The group went into the NDCS Roadshow bus and heard about alarm clocks that shake, doorbells that flash and we tried a loop so that we could hear music but no one else could hear it.

Next we went to art and made a dreamcatcher. We used a cardboard plate, wool and feathers to decorate it. It was very beautiful.

After that we went to do music. We played rhythms on drums and the group had to play at the same time.

It was a very interesting day and we enjoyed ourselves.

The next 'Stay and Play' session (for babies or children with a hearing loss) will be on Tuesday 24th April 2018. For more information or dates see the flyer below.

We have completed our first 'Level 1 BSL' course for families of deaf children.

At the moment we do not have another course running but we are hoping to organise one in the near future.

Some of the Resource Base children and signing club went to Chelmsford cathedral to take part in the Christmas carol service for deaf people.
