Class 1
Welcome to Class 1
Reception
Class Teacher: Mrs Bray
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Murphy
SEN Teaching Assistant: Miss Matthews
Gates open at 8:40 and children must be in school by 8:50.
Children should walk independently to their teacher, who will guide them through the main pupil entrance down to their classroom. For safeguarding reasons, parents will not be permitted past the red line on the playground. Please look for signs and markings that will direct you where to enter and leave the school premises safely.
Our topic for Autumn 1 is Marvellous Me. Here is what we will be covering this term:
English
We will be reading a range of exciting stories linked to our topic, including, The Hundred Decker Bus, Kipper’s Toy Box and several Fairy tales. The children will have lots of opportunities to learn through roleplay and song. They will develop their ability to describe characters, settings and storylines. Later in the term, we will start our daily Read, Write Inc. (RWI) phonics lessons. During these sessions your child will learn to read, write and recognise sounds and words. We will also support the children to write their first name.
Maths
There are so many exciting ways for the children to explore maths across the provision. We will practise counting, ordering, matching and sorting items, and recognising numerals. We introduce the children to new concepts, such as subitising, and support their understanding of number composition and cardinality. Later in the term, we will use Ten Town to formally introduce the numbers 0-5 and develop the children’s number formation.
**Remember to use your Ten Town login at home to improve your number skills.**
Topic
The children will have lots of opportunities to explore these themes and use their imaginations to create their own storylines and games within their play. In Art and DT, the children will be exploring colour mixing, vegetable printing, junk modelling and collage. In Science we will look at the natural world around us and observe seasonal changes.
Dates:
** PE will be on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please remove your child's earrings before school. Thank you.**

At Ghyllgrove, we have three Reception classes. Each class is set up to ensure that children learn through a play-based curriculum, and all children are encouraged to learn through first-hand experiences and exploration. During play, the children's concepts, understanding, skills, attitudes and achievements are extended.
All children will have access to a small-world area, writing areas, an investigation area, a fine-motor area, a reading area, and role play, as well as access to daily literacy and numeracy activities. The children also have opportunities to access the interactive whiteboard.

Homework will be uploaded to Tapestry each Friday. We ask that it is returned the following Tuesday each week.
