Our topic for Autumn 1 is Marvellous Me. Here is what we will be covering this term:

English

This term the children will be learning the stories ‘Elmer’, ‘The Hundred Decker Bus’ and ‘The Rainbow Fish.’ The children will use props and costumes to retell these stories as well as learn them through storytelling actions. The children will also have lots of opportunities for mark making and writing, as well as letter formation. The children will be encouraged to write their first names, as well as other simple words. We also encourage the children to write down their thoughts and ideas in all their provision. Throughout the term the children will take part in daily Read, Write, Inc. sessions, where they will learn to read, write and recognise sounds and words. Information will be given out at the parent workshops in October. The children will be encouraged to listen and share ideas through circle and story times.

Maths

This term we will be learning about numbers to 10. The children will develop their counting skills and recognition of numbers. They will develop their understanding of reading and forming numbers within 10. Also developing a deep understanding of the composition of numbers to 5. During this term the children will learn about 2D shapes and their properties. They will match, sort and compare objects based on shape and size. This will be carried out through the indoor and outdoor provision in Reception. The children will also take part in daily Magical Maths sessions to develop their fluency skills and begin a Maths programme called Ten Town. Information will be given out at the parent workshops in October.

**Remember to use your Ten Town login at home to improve your number skills.**

Each class is set up to ensure that children learn through a play-based curriculum, and all children are encouraged to learn through first-hand experiences and exploration. During play, the children's concepts, understanding, skills, attitudes and achievements are extended.

All children will have access to a small-world area, writing areas, an investigation area, a fine-motor area, a reading area, and role play, as well as access to daily literacy and numeracy activities. The children also have opportunities to access the interactive whiteboard.

Homework will be uploaded to Tapestry each Friday. We ask that it is returned the following Tuesday each week.
